Maulvi Abdul Kabir: Afghan refugees are not a burden on host countries, but rather benefit them

Maulvi Abdul Kabir, Minister of Refugees and Returnees Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, emphasized that Afghan refugees are not only not a burden on the shoulders of host countries, but also contribute to the development of those countries through their economic activities.

He said at a graduation ceremony for students at a school in Paktia Province that if host countries have helped refugees in the past, it has been for their own benefit. Afghans live off their own income and have factories and shops.

No country can claim that Afghans are a burden. Have Afghans ever gone to anyone’s door and asked for help? You take taxes from Afghans and use them to develop your country.

Maulvi Abdul Kabir called on Afghan refugees to return to their country and resume their economic activities freely.

Addressing Afghan capitalists abroad, he added, “If you are living a life of dishonor, come and invest in Afghanistan with your own will and develop barren lands.”

Agriculture will increase, jobs will be provided for people, and the price of wheat will decrease.”

These statements come at a time when some neighboring countries have repeatedly called Afghan refugees a burden and emphasized their forced return.
