Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General, announced that the decision to recognize governments and cede Afghanistan’s seat in the United Nations is within the competence of the member states of the organization, not the United Nations itself.
He said that so far, no country has recognized the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to take over Afghanistan’s seat in the United Nations, and there is no process in this regard among member states.
Farhan Haq also said about the newly appointed Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan that this representative has not yet started his work; the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has not yet commented on this matter.
