Bloomberg News reported that several European countries have agreed to pay fees to Iran and Oman for their ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
The media outlet, citing informed sources, wrote that some important European countries are also included in this list and that they consider this payment “inevitable.” According to the sources, this fee will be collected under the heading of “services.”
The report states that after the US-Israeli war against Iran, the possibility of imposing such costs in the Strait of Hormuz has become a serious issue, although the details of the countries and the amount of costs are still unclear.
Bloomberg also reported that European countries have emphasized non-discriminatory treatment of ships in the Strait of Hormuz and have called on Iran and Oman not to discriminate between ships based on nationality.
The report continues by stating that Iran and Oman recently established the “Strait of Hormuz Management Council” and its first meeting was held in Muscat, a move that has been met with reactions from some countries.
According to the report, Iran has stated that it adheres to international laws and does not intend to collect tolls similar to the Panama and Suez Canals, but the plan for joint management of the Strait of Hormuz services is still under review.
Bloomberg also referred to Donald Trump’s statements, which he had previously warned in response to this issue.
