Lavrov: NATO should have been dissolved after the collapse of the Soviet Union
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says that NATO should have been dissolved like the Warsaw Pact after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but it continued to operate.
According to the TASS news agency, Lavrov said that NATO initially used the events in Afghanistan as an excuse to maintain its military structure.
He added that NATO’s presence in Afghanistan ended in disaster and that the alliance replaced the “Russian threat” with the “Soviet threat” after the withdrawal.
