Massive fire in New York injures 21 people, including 19 firefighters
At least 21 people, including 19 firefighters, have been injured in a massive fire in the Flushing area of Queens, New York City, according to reports.
Reuters reported that the fire started at around 10 a.m. local time on Saturday morning in a residential building near College Point Boulevard and then spread to two adjacent buildings.
The New York Fire Department said all injured firefighters were taken to the hospital for treatment; according to local media reports, five had moderate to severe injuries, with one in critical condition.
Officials also said that rescue workers rescued a number of residents of the building where the fire occurred; the cause of the incident has not yet been clarified and investigations are ongoing.
