Russian court bans Yabloko party from participating in parliamentary elections
A Moscow court has ruled that the Yabloko party, the only liberal and anti-war party registered in Russia, cannot participate in next month’s parliamentary elections.
Yabloko is one of the few Russian parties that has declared its opposition to the country’s war in Ukraine. The case against the party has been filed by the nationalist Rodina party.
Rodina has alleged that Yabloko supported an extremist organization by publishing materials on its website in support of the “international LGBT movement,” which the Russian Supreme Court declared extremist in 2023.
