Chinese and Pakistani representatives meet to discuss Urumqi talks with Afghanistan

China’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs Yu Xiaoyong met in Islamabad with Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq, and the two sides discussed the regional mechanism for the Urumqi talks.

This tripartite mechanism was established with the mediation of China, and Afghanistan is also participating in it. This process began in April of this year.

Yu Xiaoyong wrote on his X page that in addition to commemorating the 75th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations, the meeting also discussed and exchanged views on the Urumqi talks.

Mohammad Sadiq described the meeting as constructive and said that the discussions focused mainly on regional security challenges.

The two sides have emphasized strengthening coordination in the fight against terrorism and increasing cooperation to maintain peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Sadiq also met with some European Union officials and discussed the political and security situation in the region and terrorist threats.

Pakistani officials have repeatedly claimed that some attacks in Pakistan originate from Afghan soil, but the Islamic Emirate has rejected these claims and emphasizes that it is not involved in Pakistan’s insecurity.
