Putin and Xi Jinping in Bishkek emphasize expansion of Russia-China cooperation

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Bishkek and discussed bilateral cooperation and some regional issues.

Putin said that cooperation between Russia and China is developing successfully in all areas, and the partnership between the two countries is considered a model of relations between states.

The Russian President added that Moscow, if Beijing wishes, is ready to cooperate to make the visa-free travel regime between the two countries permanent; according to him, tourism between Russia and China has increased by 43 percent in the first half of the year after the implementation of visa-free travel.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the meeting as friendly, constructive and based on trust, saying the Ukrainian crisis was raised only in passing and international issues were not the main focus of the meeting.

Putin also expressed condolences to the families and relatives of the victims of the recent floods in Nepal and Tibet.
