In an official letter to the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Iran warned that in the event of any military attack by the United States, the bases of the “hostile power” in the region would be legitimate targets for the Iranian armed forces.
In this letter, the details of which were accessed by the Axios website, Tehran, referring to repeated threats from American officials, especially Donald Trump’s statements about the possibility of using force, emphasized that these positions cannot be considered “mere words” and are a sign of the real danger of military aggression, the consequences of which for the region will be “catastrophic.”
Iran has called on the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to take immediate action to prevent Washington’s illegal threats, warning that failure to confront this behavior could lead to the downfall of another independent member state.
The letter emphasizes that in the event of US military aggression, Iran will respond decisively and proportionately, based on its inherent right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, and the United States will be fully responsible for any unforeseen and uncontrollable consequences.
Another part of the letter refers to Trump’s statements about the possibility of using the bases of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and Fairford in the United Kingdom, and states that these words should not be considered merely verbal expressions.
