Pentagon’s rush to produce drones threatens the safety of American soldiers
Reports indicate that the Pentagon’s increasing momentum in producing military drones has raised concerns about the safety of American soldiers.
According to CBS News, pressure from the US Department of Defense and the military to quickly deal with the threat of drones has led to some safety standards being ignored in the explosives sector.
A US military explosives safety expert has warned that this hasty process undermines basic safety principles and could put the lives of military personnel at risk.
These concerns were heightened after the March 2026 incident at Fort Polk, Louisiana, in which a mini-drone training drone exploded, injuring a US Special Forces soldier.
Critics say that the US military, influenced by the war in Ukraine, has moved towards mass production of cheap, disposable drones, but that continuing this trend could lead to more deadly incidents.
