The International Criminal Court and the Netherlands strongly condemn new US sanctions against judges at the Hague court
The International Criminal Court (ICC) strongly condemned the new sanctions imposed by the US government against two of its judges, calling the move a “blatant and flagrant attack” on the independence of an impartial judicial institution.
The Court’s statement said that the sanctions against elected judges undermine the rule of law at the international level and that the Court will continue its independent work in cooperation with partners.
The sanctions were imposed on Gocha Lordkipanidze of Georgia and Erdanbalsorn Damdin of Mongolia, who were instrumental in rejecting Israel’s request to halt its war crimes investigation in Gaza.
The Netherlands, the host of the court in The Hague, also condemned these sanctions and announced that it supports the court and that the institution must carry out its mission without hindrance.
This US action was taken in support of Israel and following the issuance of arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant.
