The United Arab Emirates is withdrawing from OPEC and OPEC+
The United Arab Emirates has announced that it will withdraw from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the OPEC+ alliance, a decision that could have a significant impact on the global oil market.
According to reports, the country plans to officially withdraw from these two institutions on May 1, 2026, a move announced amid global energy tensions and increased oil market volatility.
It is said that this decision was made in line with the UAE’s long-term strategic and economic vision, with the aim of independently developing the energy sector and increasing oil production capacity.
Analyses show that the UAE’s withdrawal could weaken the cohesion of OPEC+ and also affect Saudi Arabia’s role as the de facto leader of the coalition.
