According to Kazakh media reports, the country plans to increase its trade volume with Afghanistan from the current $500 million to $3 billion in the coming years.
Kazakh officials say that the bulk of trade between the two countries is currently based on Kazakhstan’s exports of grain, flour and other agricultural products.
According to them, the lack of transportation and logistics routes is the biggest obstacle, and the Turghandi-Herat railway project will be crucial for trade development.
Reports indicate that Kazakhstan considers Afghanistan an important transit corridor, providing access to markets in South Asia and the Middle East.
