Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and UAE reach agreement to develop railway corridor via Afghanistan

Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding to explore and develop the Central Asia-South Asia Rail Corridor (CASA) project, which will connect Afghanistan to Pakistani ports.

Based on this memorandum, the Ministries of Transport of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE will conduct technical and economic studies of the project and a feasibility study of the development of railway infrastructure and related facilities.

The three countries also plan to create a joint working group to examine the technical, economic, and financial aspects of the project and identify ways to implement it.

The proposed route, which starts in Kazakhstan, will pass through Uzbekistan and Afghanistan and will access the Pakistani ports of Karachi and Gwadar.
