A 7.1-magnitude earthquake has struck the southwestern Japanese island of Kyushu, prompting a tsunami warning.
Reports indicate that the earthquake caused widespread damage in Kumamoto Prefecture, causing buildings and bridges to collapse and fires to break out in a number of homes.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanai Takaichi has announced that at least 13 people have died and dozens more have been injured as a result of the earthquake.
Images of a large shopping mall collapsing following the earthquake have also been released, and search and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas.
