China creates new administrative unit “Sanling” in Xinjiang near Afghan border
Indian media have reported that China has created a new administrative unit called “Sanling” in Xinjiang province, near the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
The aim of this measure is to strengthen security along the Wakhan Corridor.
So far, official Chinese sources have not said anything about the creation of this administrative unit.
According to reports, the newly established administrative unit is located near the Karakoram mountain range and along the Wakhan Corridor, a narrow pass connecting China to Afghanistan.
Chinese officials have said that the purpose of creating this administrative unit is to strengthen border control and prevent possible infiltration of Uyghur separatist fighters into Chinese territory.
This is the third new administrative unit that China has created in Xinjiang in more than a year.
Based on the announcement of the Xinjiang local government, this administrative unit was established on March 26 and is scheduled to operate under the administration of Kashgar City.
