Khalilzad sinks Pakistan into deeper hole with drone strikes
Former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has called the violation of Pakistani airspace and recent attacks on Afghan territory sad and regrettable, warning that the ruling institutions in Pakistan are digging a deeper pit for themselves by avoiding diplomacy.
Khalilzad, who played a key role in the 2020 Doha peace talks between the United States and the Islamic Emirate, told the media that the escalation of border tensions between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and Pakistan, especially after the airstrikes on Spin Boldak, would lead to further instability in the region.
He added: “Instead of dialogue and cooperation with Kabul, Pakistan is only putting itself in a more difficult position with these ill-considered actions.”
He also pointed to the role of the United States, saying that Washington, especially under President Trump’s new leadership, can use its influence to prevent a full-scale border war
