Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says the target of the joint security pact between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan is not Iran or Israel.
Fidan emphasized that no country that does not take aggressive action against members of the pact will be targeted by the alliance. He also said that the mutual defense clause of the pact has a structure similar to Article 5 of NATO, meaning that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members.
The Turkish Foreign Minister has expressed hope that Egypt will also join this security pact in the future.
Meanwhile, speculation continues about the goals and scope of this coalition. Reports indicate that Pakistan’s defense minister has also hinted at the possibility of the alliance focusing on threats emanating from Yemen and Afghanistan.
Yusuf Ener, an expert on Middle East issues, also told Sputnik that if trilateral cooperation between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan is institutionalized, there is a possibility that other countries in the region will join this framework, and this coalition could become a regional security bloc from the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.
According to Ener, the combination of Turkey’s defense industry capabilities, Saudi Arabia’s financial power, and Pakistan’s military and nuclear capabilities could change the security equations of the region, and the geopolitical weight of this framework could increase with the addition of new members.
