Pakistani, Malaysian prime ministers reiterate commitment to peace and stability in Afghanistan
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in a joint statement, emphasized their firm commitment to achieving lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and a bright future for the people of the country.
The statement was issued on the sidelines of the two leaders’ meeting at the United Nations General Assembly and focuses on the need for continued engagement with Islamic Emirate officials in key areas such as combating terrorism and extremism.
The statement reads: “The leaders of the two countries emphasized the importance of continuing to engage with the authorities of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in various fields, including the fight against terrorism.”
Sharif and Ibrahim also insisted on the need to form an inclusive government in the country, protect the fundamental rights of citizens, and continue humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
So far, the Islamic Emirate has not made an official response to these statements, but Islamic Emirate officials had previously announced that the current government is fully inclusive and that countries should not interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
