Rare Apple-1 computer with wooden case sells for $475,000 at Boston auction
A rare Apple 1-series computer with its original Boston wooden case sold to RR Auctions at the Byte Shop auction for a price well above its initial estimate.
Before the auction, live bids had reached $144,311, while its estimated value was estimated at $300,000.
Ultimately, the device was sold for a final price of $475,000, including buyer’s premium.
This computer, one of only nine remaining examples of the 50 units produced with the Byte Shop wooden case, is fully operational and has been restored by Apple expert Corey Cohen.
This video demonstrates the keyboard, the cassette interface, and running programs, and ends with the demo, Apple the 30th ASCII Demo<<<, which shows text images of Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and the Apple logo.
This 1-Apple, registered as “Moore No. 15” and known as the 1-Apple in the 1-Apple registry, was acquired from the auction of the estate of Joan Blodgett Moore, the first female graduate of Stanford Law School.
