Ukraine’s attack on Russian oil pipeline to Hungary and Budapest’s strong reaction

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Seppár announced on Monday August 18 that the Ukrainian army had attacked the Druzhba oil pipeline, which transports Russian crude oil to Hungary.

He wrote on his personal page on the X social network: “Ukraine once again attacked the oil pipeline leading to Hungary and stopped the flow of transmission. This action against our energy security is unacceptable and outrageous!”

Noting that the attack was carried out on a pipeline transformer station in the Bryansk region of Russia, Szijjarto added: “Over the past three and a half years, Brussels and Kiev have been trying to drag Hungary into the war in Ukraine; these repeated attacks on our energy sources are in line with this.”

He stressed that the Ukrainian conflict is not Hungary’s war and that the country will stay out of the conflict as long as the current government is in office.

This pipeline, one of the longest oil transmission networks in the world, transports crude oil from Russia and Kazakhstan to European countries including Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
