A pilot and three Colombian tourists have died after a helicopter crashed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Al Jazeera reported that the incident took place on Saturday near the “Vista Chiniza” area in the Tijuca National Park, which is one of the city’s popular tourist areas.
Three Colombian women from a family were flying over the park with a pilot. The Colombian consul general said the family had traveled to Rio de Janeiro to celebrate a daughter’s 15th birthday.
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro has asked Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Authority to take urgent measures to increase monitoring and ensure the safety of helicopter flights.
This comes as concerns have grown in recent months about the safety of helicopter tourism flights in the city, and in June, six people died after two helicopters collided in mid-air.
