Russia threatens to disrupt European satellites

Moscow has told international regulators that it considers civilian navigation and broadcasting satellites in Europe used to support Ukrainian military operations to be legitimate targets and may jam their signals.

According to the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications of Russia, it has informed the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Radio Regulations Board that European countries using these satellites for military and civilian purposes do not have the right to object to signal interference.

This threat came after Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Finland, France, and the Netherlands complained to the ITU in March about Russian interference in European satellite communications.

This action could exacerbate existing tensions between Russia and European countries and affect the functioning of critical navigation and communications infrastructure in the region.
