Ahmed al-Sharaa’s departure from Damascus and the escalation of the crisis in Syria with the assassination of senior officials
According to unconfirmed reports from Al-Mayadeen Network, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, the president of the interim Syrian government, has left the country’s capital, Damascus, with his family and been transferred to Idlib.
This news comes as Syria is witnessing worrying security developments.
According to reports, an assassination operation targeted three senior officials of the interim government, including Defense Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra, and no further details about the operation or the status of other officials are available.
At the same time, a military battalion has taken control of the state-run radio and television building in Damascus in a surprise move.
These events are occurring at a time when Syria is in a sensitive and fragile phase of political transition following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad government in December 2024.
The emergence of al-Sharaa, the assassination of senior officials, and the control of state media could be a sign of the intensification of unrest and the challenges facing the transitional government.
