Russia calls for consideration of rail route to Indian Ocean via Afghanistan

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khosnulin has said that Moscow should explore rail routes to the Indian Ocean as an alternative to the Straits of Hormuz and the Bosphorus.

In an interview with the TASS news agency, Khosnulin said that, given the dangers in these straits, one possible route could pass through Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

He has emphasized that any route that guarantees Russia access to the Indian market will be acceptable to Moscow.
