Washington: ready to approve Russia sanctions plan
The US President’s special representative for Ukraine said on Wednesday morning that a draft of new sanctions against Russia is ready to be passed by the Senate.
Despite reports of US President Donald Trump’s reluctance to pressure Russia through economic sanctions, his representative announced that a new sanctions package is ready.
Keith Kluge, the US President’s special representative for Ukraine, said this morning, Wednesday, May 4, that a draft of new sanctions against Russia is ready to be approved by the Senate.
“I spoke with Senator Lindsey Graham last weekend and I think the senators are ready to act; they called it the Russia Sanctions Act of 2025 and I think Graham is ready to implement it and these sanctions are going to be very tough,” Kluge explained in an interview with Fox News.
Earlier on Monday, Graham said he was seeking new restrictions on Russia before the Group of 7 summit in Canada in mid-June.
