At least 35 injured in massive fire in Balochistan, Pakistan
At least 35 people have been injured in a massive fire at a customs warehouse in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, four of them in critical condition.
According to the Dawn newspaper, the incident took place on Sunday in the Lak Pass area on the Quetta-Karachi highway, after which a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker also exploded.
Local officials said the fire first started in a customs warehouse for confiscated goods and then spread to a parking lot for cars and tankers carrying flammable materials.
Abdul Haq Achakzai, head of the Quetta Fire Department, said that the intensity of the fire and the presence of tankers carrying gas and petroleum products made firefighting operations difficult.
Officials added that the gas tanker explosion caused extensive damage and goods worth billions of rupees were burned in the fire.
