Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, harshly criticized Donald Trump’s policies and considered the US attack on Iran an action that, instead of strengthening global security, has increased nuclear insecurity and the motivation of countries to achieve nuclear deterrence.
He said that Iran was targeted for attack despite being a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and accepting international inspections and safeguards, and this action showed that dependence on international mechanisms against Washington’s aggressive policies does not guarantee the security of countries.
Referring to economic pressures against Iran, Rezaei said that after failing to impose its demands through military means, the United States has resorted to economic blockade; however, Iran has experience in overcoming sanctions and will not surrender to these pressures.
He warned that countries that join the US economic war against Iran should not expect Tehran to be indifferent, and stressed that any action against Iran’s interests will be met with a reciprocal response.
The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also criticized the US claims about the Strait of Hormuz, saying that Washington, with its belligerent policies, has increased the cost of global trade and maritime transportation and jeopardized the security of energy routes.
Rezaei emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not want the war to spread, but it will not retreat in the face of pressure, threats, and aggression.
