US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barak has said that the Israeli regime had raised its concerns with Washington before attacking an air base in Syria; however, according to information provided by Syria, there were no Turkish military forces, convoys or weapons present at the site.
According to him, Syria and the United States expected the talks to continue and a joint mechanism had been established to coordinate and prevent escalation of tensions, but before the talks could continue, the Israeli regime decided to bomb parts of the airport runway.
Barak emphasized that Turkey had no prior knowledge of the attack and that the Israeli fighter jets flew within 80 kilometers of the Turkish border without warning, an issue that could have increased the risk of a widespread confrontation, given Turkey’s military power and political tensions between Ankara and Tel Aviv.
He said that from the American perspective, there was no sign of hostile intent or aggressive action on the part of Syria or Türkiye in this incident, and Ankara does not want to enter into a military conflict.
The US ambassador to Turkey called the regime’s attack a “step back in the path of reducing tensions” and stressed that the main goal is to bring all parties back to the negotiating table and prevent surprise and military conflict.
