Today Hotel fire in Kolkata, India; 9 people died
At least nine people, including a child, have died and six others have been injured after a fire broke out at a hotel in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata.
According to Reuters, the fire started around 2:50 a.m. on the second floor of the hotel and firefighters brought it under control in less than an hour.
Police said about 30 people were safely evacuated from the building; an electrical short circuit is believed to have caused the fire, although investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.
