Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian President Masoud Pezzekian on Thursday (October 8, 2026) on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States summit in Turkmenistan. The two sides discussed expanding bilateral relations and regional developments.
Putin called relations between Moscow and Tehran expanding and said that the volume of trade between the two countries increased by more than 21 percent in 2025, and this trend has continued in the first seven months of this year; he also positively assessed the humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
Referring to the situation in the region, the Russian President said that Iran is working to end the conflicts and has presented new proposals for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
Putin emphasized that Russia is ready to help Iran resolve the situation in the region peacefully and asked the doctors to convey their greetings and good wishes to the Iranian leader.
