Zalmay Khalilzad: The current situation in Pakistan is sad and worrying and requires objective analysis

Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US special representative for Afghan peace, described the current situation in Pakistan as sad and worrying, and warned that the continuation of the existing crises could have more serious consequences for the country.

Khalilzad noted in his remarks that the security situation in Balochistan is deteriorating with severe attacks by Baloch militants and operations by Pakistani security forces, and that the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also in a critical situation.

He added that Pakistan’s popular political leader Imran Khan remains in prison and solitary confinement, adding to the complexity of the country’s political crisis.

Citing his work experience at the Zand Institute, the former US representative emphasized that Pakistan needs an objective analysis and effective solutions. He believes that if the ruling structure allows a group of independent and multidisciplinary analysts to impartially examine internal crises and propose political and practical options, it could be a way out of the current impasse.

Khalilzad concluded by expressing hope that Pakistani decision-makers will take new and unexpected steps to resolve crises for the future and stability of the country.
