The European Union has listed Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization

The European Union officially recognized Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization at a meeting of foreign ministers.

Kaia Kalas, the head of the European Union’s foreign and security policy, called this decision a decisive and necessary step and wrote in her message on X Network that repressions must not go unanswered. Any government that kills thousands of its own people is in fact bringing about its own end.

He also emphasized that the IRGC is now aligned with groups such as Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and ISIS and should be treated as such.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also welcomed the decision, saying: “For a regime that suppresses the protests of its people with blood, it is entirely appropriate to label it a terrorist organization, and this decision should have been made sooner.”

He added that Europe stands with the Iranian people for freedom and supports the imposition of new sanctions against Iran.

The EU’s move is part of broader efforts to respond to what European officials have described as the “suppression of protests and human rights violations in Iran.”
