Deadly fire in girls’ school dormitory in Kenya kills 16 students
Kenyan authorities have announced that at least 16 students have died and 79 others have been injured after a fire broke out in a dormitory at a girls’ school in the city of Gilgil.
According to Al Jazeera, the fire broke out last night in the dormitory of the Oto Mishi Girls’ School in Nakuru District.
Kenyan police said that rescue and security forces were dispatched to the scene immediately after the incident and began rescue operations and the transfer of the injured.
Kenya has witnessed similar incidents in schools in previous years. According to government statistics, in 2018 alone, more than 60 cases of deliberate arson were recorded in the country’s public secondary schools.
