Trump: US targets ISIS positions in Nigeria with Tomahawk missiles
US President Donald Trump announced that the country’s armed forces, on his direct orders, have carried out precision air strikes using more than a dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles from a warship in the Gulf of Guinea against the positions of the West African branch of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISWAP) terrorist group in northwestern Nigeria, particularly in Sokoto State.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States struck a powerful and deadly blow against ISIS terrorists in northwestern Nigeria, who have been brutally targeting and killing mostly innocent Christians,” Trump wrote in a post on the social media platform Truth Social.
He emphasized that he had previously warned these terrorists and that more attacks would be carried out if the killing of Christians continued.
The US Department of War (Pentagon) released a video of the moment the missiles were fired, and the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed that the operation was coordinated with Nigerian authorities and that several ISIS terrorists were killed.
