Russia ready to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan to ease tensions
Russia has said it is ready to play a mediating role between Pakistan and Afghanistan to ease rising tensions.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the proposal, emphasizing that regional stability is a serious priority for Russia and the international community.
Zakharova pointed to the importance of Pakistan and Afghanistan as key partners in the region and called on both sides to show restraint and resolve differences through dialogue.
He added: “Mediation can pave the way for lasting peace and reduce security threats.”
This proposal comes at a time when previous efforts by Qatar and Türkiye to mediate only resulted in a temporary ceasefire, and recent talks in Istanbul ended without progress.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman warned that continued tensions endanger regional security and that the only sustainable solution is to continue negotiations and avoid escalating measures.
Meanwhile, Iran has also announced its readiness to help reduce tensions, and Türkiye plans to send a high-level delegation to Pakistan.
