66 US Congress members call for cancellation of Afghan and Iranian refugee deportation plan

Sixty-six members of Congress have written to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary Marquin Mullin calling for the cancellation of the Afghan refugee deportation plan.

The letter expressed concern over reports that the Trump administration plans to return more than 150 Afghan refugees to Afghanistan via Pakistan.

Members of Congress said the detainees included family members of Afghans who had worked with US forces in Afghanistan and whom the US government had promised to protect.

The letter also expressed concern about the possibility of Iranian citizens being deported from the United States and called on the Trump administration to cancel flights planned to deport Afghan and Iranian citizens.
