Iranian state television has reported hearing several explosions on Qeshm Island at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. A number of residents of the island have also said they saw two planes flying over the sky of Qeshm.
The Associated Press reported, citing a US official, that US forces have carried out so-called “defensive strikes” against Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the official, the positions of Iranian forces that were threatening US military assets using surface-to-air missiles were targeted.
At the same time, reports of six explosions being heard in the city of Khasab, Oman, have also been published. Some reports have attributed these explosions to Iranian anti-ship missiles being fired at ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Associated Press, the US strikes appear limited and do not indicate a widespread return to military conflict.
