Intensification of repression and torture of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons
The Palestinian Prisoners Association recently warned in a report that more than 11,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons are suffering from torture, starvation and infectious diseases, and the dire conditions in prisons such as Naqb and Ofer threaten the lives of many of them.
This report is based on testimonies and interviews with dozens of prisoners, including women and children, in seven different prisons, and shows the systematic nature of inhumane and violent behavior that could amount to war crimes.
According to the association, the use of electric shocks, plastic bullets, and beatings against prisoners has increased, and scabies has become widespread in the Negev and Ofer prisons.
As one of the largest detention centers, the Negev Prison has become a place of severe repression and the spread of epidemics since the beginning of the Gaza war, leading to the deaths of many prisoners.
Women prisoners in Damoun Prison have also reported humiliating searches, beatings, and deprivation of their special needs.
