Putin and Trump’s 90-minute conversation about Iran and Ukraine

Russian news agency Sputnik reported, citing Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Vladimir Putin, that the telephone conversation between Putin and Donald Trump lasted more than an hour and a half.

According to the report, Putin condemned the assassination attempt on Trump and considered his decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran correct. Moscow also assessed the United States’ ground operations against Iran as dangerous.

During the conversation, the two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis; Trump said that an agreement to end the war was close, while Putin emphasized that Russian forces were taking the initiative and were pushing back the opposing side’s positions.

It is also reported that the leaders of the two countries had similar assessments of the policies of the Kiev government led by Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ushakov added that Russia will continue active contacts with Iran, the Persian Gulf countries, Israel, and the United States, and the talks ended with warm farewells from both sides.

Meanwhile, after this call, Trump said that Putin had expressed his readiness to end the war in Iran, but he had asked Putin to end the war in Ukraine first.

Trump also claimed that Iran may have imported light military equipment during the ceasefire, adding that the United States is aware of their location.

He further expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of cooperation from Britain and some NATO allies in the war with Iran.
