Airstrike on Myanmar temple kills 23, including four children

At least 23 people, including four children, were killed and several others injured in an airstrike on a monastery and place of worship in Lintalo village in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region on Friday.

According to Reuters, the monastery was sheltering about 200 refugees from the fighting between the army and pro-democracy forces.

“In addition to the 23 dead, many others have been injured and we are urgently transferring the injured for treatment,” local resident Foucine told Reuters.

Hlaing Bwa, the head of the Sagaing People’s Administration, attributed the attack to the Myanmar Military Administration Council and called it an airstrike.

The exact nature of the attack has not yet been independently confirmed, and Myanmar’s NUG has not officially responded.

Monasteries in Myanmar are places of worship for monks and followers of various religions, especially Buddhists.
