The Austrian Ministry of the Interior has announced that a 26-year-old Afghan citizen, previously convicted of serious financial and drug-related crimes, has been deported from Vienna to Kabul via Istanbul.
According to the ministry, the man has been convicted three times in Austria, serving a total of more than two and a half years in prison; Austrian authorities say he was also involved in criminal activities with a co-convict while serving his sentence.
The Austrian Ministry of the Interior has stated that the Islamic Emirate confirmed the identity and citizenship of this individual in Vienna in September 2025, after which the process of deporting him to Afghanistan became possible.
Austria has announced that in the first seven months of 2026, more than 8,800 people who did not have the right to reside in the country were forced to leave Austria, and nearly half of them were convicted criminals.
Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said the deportation of stateless persons and convicted criminals would continue and that the government was seeking to ensure negative immigration.
