Iran has announced that it has blacklisted 45 oil tankers for violating its regulations for transiting the Strait of Hormuz and will also deal with other ships if they transport cargo.
According to a Reuters report, ships on the list could face fines, detention and seizure of their cargo. The list includes tankers carrying crude oil, liquefied natural gas and other petroleum products.
This action comes as tensions over the Strait of Hormuz have increased in recent months, and mutual threats between Iran and the United States regarding sanctions and ship traffic have heightened concerns about the security of one of the world’s most important energy transport routes.
Iran has also warned that ships that attempt to transfer cargo with blacklisted tankers may face similar measures.
