New study finds prolonged sitting may increase risk of cancer death
According to a new study by scientists at the University of Glasgow on nearly 90,000 people, prolonged and persistent inactivity – sitting for more than 30 minutes without a break – can increase the risk of cancer and death from it.
The findings of this study show that every hour of continuous sitting can increase the risk of dying from cancer by 10%.
Researchers have emphasized that breaking up long periods of sitting, even with light activity, can have significant positive effects.
According to this study, replacing one hour of inactivity with light exercise can reduce the risk of dying from cancer by about 12%, and doing just 5 minutes of vigorous exercise daily can reduce the risk of dying from cancer by 22%.
