The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted that the intensity of the El Niño phenomenon will peak in late fall or early winter this year.
Based on this forecast, there is about a 70% chance that this year’s El Niño will become the strongest recorded since 1950.
Experts warn that the combination of global warming and the El Niño phenomenon could intensify heat waves and increase the intensity of natural events and disasters in different regions of the world.
