Death toll from devastating earthquakes in Venezuela rises, more than 21,000 missing
Venezuelan authorities have announced that the death toll from two consecutive earthquakes in the center of the country has risen to 164 dead and 971 injured.
According to reports, two strong earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale shook central Venezuela within seconds of each other today, causing widespread damage.
Venezuela’s interim president has declared a state of emergency following the incident and reported heavy damage in the country’s capital, Caracas, and the state of La Guaira.
Initial reports also indicate that more than 21,000 people are missing following these devastating earthquakes, and search and rescue operations are still ongoing to find them.
Rescue teams and rescue workers in the affected areas are busy caring for victims and assessing the extent of the damage caused by this natural event.
