US Federal Court :to continue hearing Afghan refugee cases

The Washington State Branch of the Council on Islamic-American Relations (CAIR-WA) has welcomed a new decision by a US federal court to advance the cases of Afghan refugees.

Based on the institution’s announcement, a district court in Northern California ruled on April 24, 2026, that the review of Afghan asylum cases should continue despite a previous halt by the Donald Trump administration.

The lawsuit was filed in July 2025 by CAIR-WA against the US Department of Homeland Security and aims to end the long delays in processing Afghan asylum applications.

The court has emphasized that the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) cannot avoid its legal responsibility to review these applications.

Officials of this legal institution have considered this decision an important step towards ensuring justice and preventing discriminatory practices, although the court has clarified that this ruling is not universal for all applicants.
