Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, arrived in St. Petersburg this morning, Monday, (27th of April ), for an official meeting with Russian officials.
During this trip, the Iranian Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet and talk with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Araqchi had previously traveled to Islamabad and Muscat to meet with senior Pakistani and Omani officials, and had a brief stopover in Islamabad before leaving for Moscow.
Araghchi, upon arriving in St. Petersburg, said that this trip aims to continue close consultations between Tehran and Moscow on regional and international issues and to promote bilateral relations.
He added that the meeting with the Russian President is an appropriate opportunity to review the developments in the war and its latest situation, and that these coordinations between the two countries are of particular importance.
Referring to his previous trips to Pakistan and Oman, the Foreign Minister said: “Good consultations were held in these countries, and the process and conditions for continuing negotiations between Iran and the United States were examined.
He emphasized that the conditions of the Islamic Republic of Iran are very important in the negotiations, and that the rights of the Iranian people must be ensured after 40 days of resistance and the country’s interests must be protected.
Araqchi also pointed out the importance of cooperation with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz, saying that as two coastal countries, coordination and consultation on safe passage through the strait are essential.
He added: “There is a lot of common ground between Iran and Oman, and the two sides agreed that consultations will continue at expert levels.”
