Ukraine offers Trump revised 20-point peace plan, focusing on free economic zone in Donbas

In a move to garner support from US President Donald Trump, Ukraine submitted a new 20-point peace plan to the White House yesterday, December 12 ,which is a revised version of the previous 28-point plan.

According to a report by the Politico website and published details, the main focus of this plan is the creation of a civilian “free economic zone” in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

Accordingly, Russia and Ukraine will be required to withdraw their forces from the buffer zone to provide space for commercial activities of American companies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described the plan as a “compromise for lasting peace” and stressed that Kiev will only withdraw from its positions with reliable security guarantees from Western allies.

Key content of the draft articles includes removing the clause prohibiting Ukraine from permanently joining NATO, holding elections in disputed areas, and emphasizing security guarantees from Europe and NATO.

However, Trump has expressed skepticism about the progress of the negotiations, and the White House will only send a representative if an agreement is truly possible.

Russia is unlikely to accept this offer, especially given its insistence on full control of Donbas and preventing Ukraine from joining NATO.
