Thomas Barak, the US President’s special representative for Syria, has said that after the Israeli airstrike on the Abu al-Dhuhr air base in northwestern Syria, Turkey and Israel were only one step away from a direct military confrontation.
According to Barak, this attack could have led to misunderstanding and conflict between the two countries, so the United States is trying to create a communication and coordination mechanism between Turkey, Israel, and Syria to prevent possible clashes.
Turkey has condemned the Israeli attack on the Abu al-Dhuhur base, and Israel claims that it considers the possibility of Turkish forces stationed at the base a threat to its security.
